For the sake of the environment …
The trend towards lightweight is gaining speed.
If politically prescribed CO2 targets are to be achieved, there is no way around the use of lightweight materials such as aluminium and carbon fiber. CFRP materials are known for their very high strength and stiffness. Low density combined with excellent damping and impact characteristics takes this material into a perfect candidate for light weight design and construction.
Reducing weight
Since CFRP has proven itself in aircraft construction, it is now being used evermore frequently in the automotive industry.
In order to produce geometrically complex parts at a reasonable cost, the RTM (Resin Tranfer Molding) method prevails. Schaufler Tooling, as one of the leading manufacturers in die and mold technology, has already gained experience in the design and manufacture of RTM tools over the course of several projects.
